Wanted to do a little sketch that paid homage to the Mothman sightings 50th anniversary. Also wanted to try and use a technique that I loved as a kid when reading the Scary Stories to Tell in Dark series.

Bigfoot sketch from the Patterson-Gimlin footage. Just because I love bigfoot and the lore behind it.

I have been trying to create a 3d image daily but it is turning into more like a weekly thing. Anyway this one was interesting to make. I had never really played around with vray hair and fur so it was a good learning experience. #3dsmax #vray #vrayrender #infection #renderoftheday

I have been working on this piece off and on for the past 8 months. Spent about 120 hours on it. Learned alot about color theory and application, plus research on these amazing creatures. I am pretty happy with the results.

MCA Communications - Animation

My team and I completed this animation back in 2014. I was very proud of what we were able to accomplish with the style and animation. We used 3ds max, mental ray, photoshop, and after effects to complete the video.

National Oilwell Varco - Waterwolf

I completed this animation last year. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out, hopefully the client was as well. Needs some music though. I used 3ds max, Vray, Photoshop, and After Effects.

The Gorgon

Finally finished this one in 2015. It was my first time using oils but I had an acrylic under painting so I think it made it easier. Now I shall try my hand at an oil painting from start to finish.

White Walker King - Game of Thrones

White Walker King by Paul D Castro
Charcoal and graphite on paper | 8x12
It has been quite awhile since I submitted a drawing to the forum contest. I just couldnt pass this one up, the theme was Game of Thrones inspired. This image of the white walker king just stuck in my brain since the first time I saw it and I wanted to draw this scene. I used graphite for most of the drawing and then went in with charcoal to add more contrast to the darks. I like the way it came out.

The Gorgon - Acrylic/Oil on Canvas (Work In Progress)

This is a progression from cover-up of previous painting, to acrylic underpainting, then onto oils. Still needs a few more layers. It is almost complete.

Here is the original painting in acrylic:

See No, Hear No, Speak No - SOLD

'See No, Hear No, Speak No' | Acrylic on Canvas | 30"x 40" | copyright 2015
I completed this painting last week, keeping with the cool color theme. I really wanted to focus on shading and color temperature. I really like the way it turned out but I wish I would have put some more into the background, yet it was time to move on.

Bob Marley Portrait

Bob | Acrylic on canvas | 6" x 12"
I wanted to paint a tribute to one of my favorite musicians. I created a drawing of this same picture awhile back but it was nice to actually make it into a painting.

Color and Light

Update: Finished
Trying to work on color and light more. I painted this over the past weekend. Its a smaller size painting, I seem to be able to get those done much quicker...go figure. I may try and turn this into a series of paintings. Still working on this one but should be done today, only a few more layers are needed I feel. #wip

Beyond the Door

Beyond the Door | Acrylic on Wood | copyright 2014
I think I dreamt about this image cause I had it in my head for the longest time. I finally was able to bring it into this world. I call this painting "Beyond the Door". Its painted on an old piece of particle board I found a long time ago. I got some nice texture from the wood grain.

Nicky Davis' Bigfoot character

Modeled this character awhile back for a local artist. Nicky Davis designed the character and I made it in 3ds max. He has some pretty cool character designs and awesome paintings. Check him out:

Dreams for Free - SOLD

Dreams for Free by Paul Castro

I started this painting about 2 years ago. I got the initial underpainting done quickly but it took me awhile to figure out where I was going with it. Plus I like to take my time adding layer upon layer.

This was a class assignment for my modeling class. We were able to create whatever scene we wanted. I decided to create some models for these characters I had sketched in my sketchbook. I had a lot of fun creating this image. I am thinking about creating a short animation using these characters. Modeled and rendered in 3ds Max with Mental Ray.

bob marley drawing

Bob Marley is one of my favorite musical artists. Not just for his music but his message. His music will live on forever. I enjoyed creating this drawing cause it brought me back to heavy use of contrast and shading with pencil.

under the pink moon

Under the Pink Moon by Paul Castro

I was listening to alot of Nick Drake when I painted this. Hence the name of the painting. First try at painting on old piece of wood I found laying around outside my apartments at the time.
